For me as a movie fan I truly a fan of DVD. Since it came out in 97, with only a few selections and some players from the 1,000 dollar range to 700. Now thousands of titles and players you can buy less a hundred dollars and more to come. The picture is much clearer and sharper the vhs and unlike the latter it won't fade with time. Vhs is recorded magneticilly, it will fade with time and with dvd recorded digitally.

One other reason I love dvd is watching the movie in the orginal formatt and with vhs 95% of it's titles formatted to fit the screen. Instead of fast forwarding to your favorite scene, with dvd you can automatically select the title. Dvd titles is growing and growing and vhs is slowly dieing. Retailers giving more and more room for dvd. Circiut City is getting rid of vhs. Fred Meyers is slowly shrinking it's vhs titles.

DVD is what the future holds. Eventually vhs going to die and go with the dodo.

DVD RULES!!!!

"You do to much, you're not superman you know"
"It's a bird, it's a plane, it's superman."
"Even superheroes have the right to dream."
"I have a feel you'll be the death of me someday."
"You got me, you got you."
"You kids can play extinct later."

Spiderman I don't think so.

They have seemed to stay around longer than Laserdiscs.
I thought I needed a turntable with those babies.

This rant has been brought to you by Pope Squad Five, the elite Roman Catholic team of superheros brought forth to defend Catholicism in the Pope's failing health.

By the way...I don't really live in Nova Scotia.

the only reason why vhs has lasted so long is because
we can record stuff off TV and copy tapes to tapes...

but...with DVD recordabilty and TiVo / ReplayTV
(or similar things like that) becoming more
available to the average consumer, there will
be no need for vhs anymore.

yes dvd is amazing...but don't worry...technology
will find a way to invent something even better.
and since we're in the Minority Report board...
hopefully Speilberg's view of the future wont be
too far off the mark.

DVD is overrated.

It is weaker than a video tape. It's less fulfilling to hold in your hand. DVD has annoying glitches where the frame pauses. Videos you can lend to anyone or leave lying around safe in the knowledge that they tough enough to build your house with. DVDs scratch like any CD. You buy a DVD then a week later a new version comes out with more extras.

I embrace VHS. I accept DVDs begrudingly.

"As far back as I can remember i've always wanted to be an independant filmmaker."

"Now i'm making movies for myself." - Spielberg.

"The new phone-book's here! This is the kind of spontaneous publicity I need! My name in print!" - Steve Martin.

"For that was his home. Londinium."

"The world is yours."

i don't see how it's weaker in any way???
less fulfilling to hold in your hand?
why would i care what it's like in my hand?
it's how it performs in the machine.
i take care of all my cd's and dvd's and
therefore any scratches on them are extremely minimal.
it's not that hard to put it back in it's case
after you watch something. another thing is that
down the road the quality of vhs tapes will degrade,
whereas dvd's wont ever. i own all three original
star wars movies and the quality is so poor that i
can't watch them anymore...plus i'm afraid they'll
fall apart in my player. i've lost many great movies
due to the fact that players have eaten it so bad.

you can instantly go to any place in a movie on dvd.
on a tape you have to fast-foward and that to me
is a pain in the ass. on dvd's you get all these extras
like deleted scenes, alternate endings, trailers,
commentaries, behind the scenes, etc...and you can
access all this with one touch of a button.

as for newer versions coming out left and right...
i feel the same way...but i'm picky about the movies
i buy on dvd. most of the new releases have minimal
amounts of extras so i usually wait for a more
definitive version anyways.

i'm sure you know all this crap.
anyways...just wanted to make a point...i think.
what are we talking about again??
