I was really excited going into this movie,and let me say that it was exactly what I wanted.The story is one of the most original and unique storylines I've ever seen in a comic book movie.Superman Returns after a 5 year absence where he went to search for the remains of Krypton.He returns to Metropolis to discover that the world has moved on and learned to live without him,but what really shakes him up is learning his love interest Lois Lane is engaged to another man and has a son.She is very angry with him for leaving her,but he has little time to deal with this because Lex Luthor has escaped from jail and has a new plan that threatens the entire world.
Now besides an amazing story the film has some of the best special effects I have ever seen.The sets are huge and massive and make you believe Metropolis is real,and the costumes are a perfect blend of the 1940s and modern day clothing.As usual,the director Bryan Singer did amazing!Bryan has a unique ability to engross an audience in his films.What really amazed me was the score.John Ottman took the old themes from the first Superman film and enhanced them creating one of the greatest scores ever.
Lastly the acting is what makes this film so amazing.Kate Bosworth is a great Lois Lane adding a whole new layer to the character that has never been there before.Kevin Spacey is the perfect villain,funny and evil.Parker Posey plays Lex's girl and adds most of the film's comic relief perfectly.The greatest performance though is that of the Man of Steel himself.Brandon Routh plays Superman in this film,and although he pays homage to Chris Reeves performance,he makes the role his own.All of the supporting roles are amazing as well.Sam Huntington is a superb Jimmy Olsen,James Marsden is great as Richard White,and Tristan Lake Leabu is just cute as Lois's son.
My only real problems with this film is some may notice some pacing problems in the first 20 minutes or so,and my only other gripe is it might just be too good.With movies like this sequels are inevitable and this ones sequel has such a high bar to reach it might not reach it,but that is a problem for the future.
This is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.There are some scenes in this film that you'll just never forget.It has emotion,action,comedy,rom
ance,etc.You just really connect with these characters on a different level than ever before.Huge props to Bryan Singer and Co. for creating one of my favorite films of all time.I highly recommend this film to anyone of all ages. |
