While this movie isn't the massive failure many make it out to be, the fact of the matter is that it was not well recieved by audiences. With an estimated 260 million dollar budget and a 380 million dollar worldwide take the film has not yet broken even. Is it really worth pushing on with a sequel at this point? Discuss.

See this is why I really hate Singer and SR.

Superman is a hugely viable franchise.

He is, and always will be an amazing character.

But the SUPERMAN MOVIE we've always wanted and needed to see has yet to be made.

And that's the thing. You see SR was not a be-all, end-all SUPERMAN movie. It was a BRYAN SINGER movie with a version of Superman in it.

It was Bryan Singer's Superman.

That sure as Hell ain't MY Superman.

SR was a BAD Superman movie.

Sure, you can like it if you want to delude yourself. And you can say it was a good MOVIE...but it was a bad SUPERMAN movie.

I mean of all the stories to tell and all the villains, all the costumes and the actors, all the drama, set pieces, and action sequences are you gonna stand there and tell me that this is the best they could do for a SUPERMAN movie or even that this is great?

There's so much to be done with a SUPERMAN movie and this movie, if nothing else, proved that.

I think that generally audiences were expecting the action to be ten-fold what it was. And they were right to expect it. Bryan Singer was wrong and idiotic not to deliver it. With the special effects these days, that's the SUPERMAN movie that people wanted to see. They wanted to see an adventure.

Ultimately the WB got exactly what they deserved and as long as they keep screwing up very simple things, I enjoy watching them take the hit.

Is the cinematic Superman is dead? Nope. Far from it. While it's true SR wasn't a huge hit like WB wanted, but it's far from being a big failure. With them doing a sequel, it surely not a failure. Plus, SR doesn't just rely on just theater to make money. There are DVD, merchandise, etc. Plus, it's still a big hit with the IMAX. I heard it continue to break records.

Why do you continue to ignore stone cold facts presented to you?? WB has said themselves that DVD sales will not make up the nearly $190 million gap between budget and breaking even...They are doing a sequel because their partner on SR didn't take as big of a hit and THEY want to make a sequel in the hopes of gaining a profit from the FRANCHISE...

If this film had a $150 million budget and made what it has, THEN and only then could you say it was not a failure.

Yeah. I was just giving my view like everyone else. I wasn't trying to be negative or anything. But hey, infamous probably love to jump on people's back if she hate someone or if they like what she don't. Oh well. I'm trying to keep it cool & play it safe by just giving my opinions & leave it at that.

Actually yes he did. Having the opinion that the cinematic Superman isn't dead is fine. But Nightwing actually mentioned SR. By stating that it was "far from a big failure" he again ignored the publicly available monetary facts that this film is still nearly $190 million from breaking even. If a combined $190 million loss between investors is not a big failure, then I don't want to know what is.

Yes, DVD sales should get some of that back, but they still have to pay for the manufacturing and distribution of those too. DVD's aren't all profit. Rentals make nothing because the rental outlets buy those DVD's at a retail price which is why you see them for sale at Blockbuster for $5 to $10 more than at Best Buy. They need to make a profit on what they paid.

Seriously Forrest, I'm done opinion wise. Opinions in here seem to matter to no one. If I can't back something up with facts that anyone can find doing a Google search I won't even bother anymore. Nightwing just doesn't seem to understand the money side of things even when its put right in his face.

That because
it's not fully 100% Kryptonite. It only half of Krytonite & half of plain land if that what you want to call it. It wasn't until he flying up in space with it, that many part of the lands started to crumbling that the Krytonite started to surrond him. Part of the lands that were crumbling might be dry muds Supes must have applies to it while he was underwater while lifting it beside lands. At least that what I'm thinking.
Okay, sounds intellegent...I'll go with that

Thought Kryptonite was Kryptonite but that sounds reasonable

Still hated the movie..THough I think it was better than X-3 any day of the week..atleast Singer made it look like he actually cared about what he was making.

No, the idea that the future of Superman in the movies is in jeapordy is just silly. The franchise has thrived and survived many interpretations over the last century. Now WB may want to change directors and change Supe's costume to a more traditional looking suit, but I would suggest they keep the same cast and push forward. Make Superman Volume 2: Episode 2 more action oriented and bring in some major bad guys from the comics.

I have to say, that's always been the one thing that irritated me with every Superman incarnation not headed by Bruce Timm. Where are the villains from the comics? If you look at the old Fleisher seriels or the old George Reeves tv show or the Chris Reeve films or Lois and Clark, where are the baddies from the comics?

At least Smallville is starting to bring in characters from the comics. I'd like to see that continue in the next Superman film.

But Superman is not dead in the movies. Make a better movie and the fans will come.

The only thing that's dead about Superman is the fagget original costume.

They need to get rid of those panties.

It's not dead, I dont care at this point though... they need to stop this franchise and wait a few years before attempting another. And for the love of God KILL Superman in the first movie of the new franchise, its just brilliant from a fanboy and average movie goer perspective. Singer is a fool for not doing that.

Anyway, im more interested in the ressurection of Batman. After all those years of embaressment... its about time the world forgets about Shumacher being linked to the character in any way.

Yes, but using that "f" word is against the rules posting here. That what Longshot was refering to. And while I may not like superheroes with underwear (Batman, Wolverine, etc. don't need 'em), but Superman is the one who started it all with that & he has wore that ever since Siegel & Shuster created him. You can say many of us who hate underwear on the outside are used to Superman wearing that, 'cause that part of his icon look beside wearing it since his 1st apperance.
