Here my list of best at the top to the worse below:
1.) "Superman 1" (The movie that started it all & it really make you believe a man can fly. Despite some campiness such as Luthor, the humor, etc. I can overlook it with how good some of the plot is. And John Williams's theme is something that will always make me think of Superman whenever I hear it.)
2.) "Superman Returns" Singer has brought back to Superman what is needed after the horrible part 3 & 4. The casts (included Routh) has done a great job. The suit need to make some change to make him look better.)
3.) "Superman 2" The Phantom Zone villians are one of the reason this was great. Can't go wrong with Zod, who is one of the best movie villian thanks to Terrance Stump. While there has been crappy part of the movie (like the amnesia kiss, Superman somehow able to throw a Sarah Wrap from his "S" chest shield, etc.), but some of the best scenes in the movie made up for that.
4.) "Superman 3" Richard Pryor didn't belong in this, even thought it wasn't his fault since the writing suck & that the director pick him. I heard Pryor is a Superman's fan & someone supposely cast him because of that. Also, Superman somehow able to get drunk & split into 2. Horrible idea. And also a woman who turn into a robot.
5.) "Superman 4" Need I say more? Almost everything was crap. Nuclear Man (who thought giving him Lee's Press-On Nails was a good idea & that it can actually Supes?!?), Lex's lame nephew, Gene still having Lex wearing a wig, etc. I think I say enough to give my reason on why I hate part 4. ~The One True Tarheels X-Stud
~The Wingster
~ Excellent topic on fans & fanboys problems.

Longshot said: All of the films needed work. But in order of worst to first, here goes:
1. Superman 4: The Quest For Peace. I think a quest for a better script might have been the way to go. The nuclear guy was so bad and Ducky as Lex's nephew actually made me long for the days of Otis and Tessmaker.
2. Superman 3. The large computer sucked. Richard Pryor sucked. The only positive parts were the Superman vs. Clark Kent and the evil Superman on a rampage montage.
3. Superman 2. While I liked most of the film, I hated the anti-memory kiss, the wierd throwing of celephane S's and fact that the film features an hour in the middle of no Superman.
4. Superman Returns. The S was too small. His neck was too thin. His chest too small. A few plot holes pop up. But I loved the movie. It made me giddy watching it.
5. Superman: The movie. One of the best superhero movies ever made. I am more than happy to overlook the horrible acting of Gene Hackman and his lame sidekicks. I can even forgive the reversing time crap. The only thing I would have changed would be having Superman introducing himself to the world in broad daylight rather than at night. Superman, in my opinion, should decend from the clouds like the Greek gods, bathed in sunlight. I think that would have been more dramatic and a better representation of what he means to the people of Metropolis. But I liked the fact that they didn't rush the film to get Big Blue on screen in costume untill the second act.
Very reasonable list
For me it would be the same except SR gets moved up to 3 because the plot-holes were more obvious and annoying to me.
btw, Nightwing, I don't mean any offence by this, but your signature about Rainbow Batman seems kinda... petty. I dunno what you've added it for whether it's to annoy BatSTUD, prove a point or whatever, just seems like something you wouldn't do. The Doctor: Even the monsters under your bed have nightmares...
Reinette: What do monsters have nightmares about?
The Doctor: Me!
100% Welsh Spider-Man and Dr Who fan.

Wow, I am almost in total agreement.
I had to reply to this comment because your reasons for hating Superman II are the SAME EXACT reasons I have. Since I was a kid, I hated the anti-memory kiss and the cellophane wrap among other things. Laser beams shot from hands? Telekinesis? Teleportation?
However, I would flip Superman III and Superman IV around. Believe it or not, I think Superman III was worse than Superman IV. Putting Richard Pryor in a Superman movie was unforgivable.
Plus, I obviously hate SR more than you do, because for one thing, there was more than a FEW plot holes there. And Superman: The Movie is FAR from a great Superman movie or even a great comic book movie.
As much of the country is left stranded for Christmas due to a storm, I wonder what are their thoughts on the credibility of Global Warming? HAHA...

Amazing! You agree with me...while still dissagreeing with me.
But yes, we are together on Superman 2.
And I am not sure I completely dissagree with you on the flipping of Superman 3 and 4. Both suck so bad they make me want to vomit. I guess i hate 4 more because it was just on tv recently to remind me how much I hate it. But I did like the Clark vs. Superman thing in the junk yard. That and the evil Superman were the only things keeping 3 slightly above 4 in my mind. But yeah, Pryor was such a bad idea for the film. February 3, 1959
