If Superman: The Movie happened in 1978, and Superman II probably takes place in 1979, one year after Superman: The Movie, and Superman Returns takes place 5 years after Superman II, would Superman Returns take place in 1984? It seems impossible considering the technology featured in the film, and that the films could have no apparent time frame, but it's just a thought. Theories and comments?

Comic movies do not work in real time. Just like the comics they are based on.

Superman Returns is a loose sequel it means it isn't really part of Superman The Movie or Superman II Universe but it is referenced to them. To me Superman Returns is the restart of the franchise. SR and Superman The Movie/Superman II are two different universes. They just have the same origin. SR just didn't show it. SR is like the alternate universe of the original Superman films.

Here we go with the "loose" sequel excuse again. Just a way to cover the behinds of those who think they know what's good and what isn't. Did you read any of the interviews?? Singer himself danced around questions about the timeline because even he had to recant things he said and did and try to explain away holes in the film which just opened other ones. "I ignored the kiss that erased Lois's memory." says Singer...but then why didn't she remember Clark was Superman?? She only remembered sleeping with him?? He responded with something like "Well I didn't see it that way." And you wonder why I don't like him or his directing ability.

And before you go saying where's the link...I've posted the link at least a dozen times in other threads so go back and find it yourself. All you'll do is try to explain what he meant by his comments and defend him and the film anyway.

Oh my goodness. Why don't all the Superman Returns haters just stop whining about plot holes, timelines and making excuses to hate the film or whatever.

Because there are just too many

I wanted to enjoy the film, but alas Nope

I've already said before why I hated it so I'm not going to repeat myself

Making excuses to hate the film, eh?

LMFAO...maybe we just hate the film because we aren't a bunch of pushovers that ignore the MANY plot holes and timeline problems?

The real answer is that Superman Returns takes place two minutes before the end of the world when God saw who was playing Superman and said:

Darn, it is pretty close to $200 million. It is at $197,621,681. I hope that the DVD and the video game releases will help it.

They've pretty much announced that they are going to make a profit, or already have (please God don't inform me of your expertise in financing major motion pictures with some dumb statistic) and they are pretty much set to make a sequel for 2009 so CAPS LOCK all you want.

Yep. No matter what anyone said, SR is almost close to making $200 millions. There will be a sequel anyway. And DVD & merchandies will help a lot. And can people please stop using Caps Lock on almost all words? It like you're desperate for attention or screaming your head off with that. Ease up on that, unless you want to suffer a stroke.

Don't worry. I won't go into anything. I know they are going to do a sequel because WB's partner wants one. They made a profit. WB lost a lot. They had the most invested and the smallest % return in the agreement which didn't make much sense to me, but whatever.

It's made over $386,000,000 world wide so far. It also is the fifth highest grossing film in the U.S. this year. So it didn't bomb like some on here would like you to believe. Was it the biggest film of the year, no but not too bad of a way for Superman to return.

As of right now, SR has made $198,008 millions in the US alone. They're getting there. I have a feeling they will get $200 millions before it gone from theaters for good. And for those who think it won't reach $200 millions, you better start eating crows soon.

Logic, common sense, and good taste HAS to come into play.

We've argued this before, and I ain't gonna go through it again, but not EVERYTHING is up for an opinion.

Actually it is a BOMB.

Sure, it made some money.

But keep it in perspective, pushover, between factors like how much it cost to make this pile of dirt and the fact that it's a SUPERMAN movie...SR is a BOMB.

Enjoy.

SR a bomb? For all we know, Hulk is a bomb compare to SR. Plus, Hulk couldn't even make $200 millions or at least much like SR. Guess if SR is a bomb, so is Sin City & Hellboy since none could even make $100 millions which Batman & Robin did. LMAO!

Why is it that a Superman movie should be the biggest movie of the year? People nowdays want a dark hero. That's not Superman. There was no way that Superman could compete with POTC 2 no matter who played Superman. I also think it's funny how people say the Routh wasn't big enough for the role but they wanted Welling who is about the same size. It's a dark world we live in and if your hero doesn't have a dark side it doesn't sell. This is the reason that it isn't the biggest hit that it should have been.

Nightwing needs a math lesson again...

Okay children....pay attention.....

First, take all those movies just mentioned and put them side by side comparing the budget and the worldwide theater gross. Then, multiply the budget by 2.135. Now, subtract that number from the final worldwide theater gross and you'll get either the gross profit or the gross loss depending on whether or not it is a positive or negative number. Once you have that, consider the popularity of the main character(s) from each film and you tell me what is or isn't a bomb.

Example:
Superman Returns final declared budget was $270.2 mil and as of today has made $386.2 mil worldwide. To break even, it needs to make $576.9 mil. So far it is carrying a gross loss of $190.7 mil. That's a big number for DVD sales/rentals to try and make up.

But it's not a bomb at all.....

Class dismissed

Welling is the same height but weighs approx 18 more pounds and actually has shape to his chest rather than it looking like a board from the side...see the main pic for Superman Returns in the upper corner for reference.

SR a bomb? For all we know, Hulk is a bomb compare to SR. Plus, Hulk couldn't even make $200 millions or at least much like SR. Guess if SR is a bomb, so is Sin City & Hellboy since none could even make $100 millions which Batman & Robin did. LMAO!

Now that is a BURN!!!
