October 20, 2002 — James Gunn, screenwriter of "Scooby Doo" and the forthcoming "Scooby Doo 2", told Moviehole why he's not coming back for "Scooby Doo 3".

"I don't have time to do Scooby 3, with Scooby 2, Dawn of the Dead, and a couple other projects on the horizon", says Gunn. "Also, there's no guarantee that the same cast and director will be back for the 3rd one; without them I just wouldn't want to do it. And, to tell you the truth, I love Scooby with all my heart -- but it's been a lot of Doo over the past few years, and I'm looking forward to doing some other things. After this spat of studio films, I'm looking to get my hands dirty again with something low-budget and ugly and independent. With all that taken into account, S3 isn't for me."
