Robert Rodriguez and 20th Century Fox are giving Predator a facelift in a new film entitled Predators. The announcement came via a news conference today at the Texas-based Troublemaker Studios where Rodriguez was on hand for the signing of a new state film incentive.

"I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming 'Machete' here, a sci-fi action film called 'Nerverackers,' a re-boot of the 'Predator' series called 'Predators,' and a couple of smaller movies called 'Sin City 2' and 'The Jetsons,'" he told the press.

If you recall, Rodriguez penned a Predator 3 script some time ago that was discarded because it was "too big."

i was just about to post this. I have to be honest, I'm PISSED this is like going up to James and Scott and saying "hey were going to remake Alien and Aliens instead of bring you two back for aline 5, or a 3rd AVP crap fest.

There is nothing wrong with Predator 1. Number 2, I only like casue it showed more with the predator, but why a reboot? Did avp really **** Alien and Predator over THAT bad?

Wait hold up whats the beef with Robert Rodriguez? I thought he was one of the few good directors left in the business, or am I thinking of someone else?

Robert Rodriguez is ready to cut a wide swathe, and his plans include re-launching the "Predator" franchise for Fox and co-directing "Machete."
For the later, the filmmaker will create a feature out of the blade- wielding antihero who appeared in a mock trailer that was part of "Grindhouse."

Rodriguez is eyeing a June start date in Austin for "Machete," a film that is financed and produced by Overnight Productions, with Danny Trejo starring as the title character.

Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

Rodriguez wrote the script and will direct the film with Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor. The film is being produced by Rodriguez, Rick Schwartz of Overnight Productions and Aaron Kaufman.

Not immediately clear is whether Rodriguez and Overnight will find a way to use the irresistible marketing slogan that appeared in the "Grindhouse" trailer: "This time, they ****ed with the wrong Mexican." It is the first non-studio movie that Rodriguez has directed since "El Mariachi."

For Fox, Rodriguez has scripted "Predators," a film that will bring back the dreadlock-sporting alien hunter who originated in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger hit "Predator." While a sequel didn't become a hit, Fox kept the alien sharp by launching the "Alien Vs. Predator," a wildly profitable series that has racked up strong grosses and DVD sales, wit little or no gross out the door.

While Rodriguez juggles these projects, he's also directing his script "Nerveracker" for Dimension Films, with Bob Weinstein setting a 2010 release for the futuristic action thriller.

So long as this is a rebooted sequel rather than a remake, and John Cena is nowhere near the movie, it could be cool.

even thought i'm still pissed at this, i will only except it to have a great new story, with maybe a predator fighting another or something. Set nowadays, not in the past or anything. And I DO NOT WANT ADI to make the Predator effects
