| My god! 3 years inbetween Star Wars movies is ridiculous. When will we be able to fully tie all 6 films together and truly understand what the whole point is? NEXT summer which is still 3/4 of a year away! Mr Lucas (or "cheese stuck in throat guy" as I call him due to his scraggly voice), has spent alot of his time trying to match the original trilogy with the prequels in terms of visuals. Thats all nice 'n all but now they're simply not the same films anymore. Perhaps digging out those VHS tapes and smugly enjoying the ORIGINAL AND arguably BETTER versions is an option? Then again maybe not. But let me just say that true classics don't have to be adjusted or tampered with. They would never re-release 'Its A Wonderful Life' with all new CGI angel effects or Indiana Jones with extra CGI nazis so why tamper so much with the original Star Wars films? I'll tell you why. To George Lucas, the original trilogy is now like a play-thing which he has fun messing around with. His HOBBY is to make changes to these films and its what he does to fill the time. Trying to justify the essentially pointless prequels is also a factor, and not such a good idea for the many people out there who adore the Originals yet dislike the prequels. Still the big bearded Lucas has quite a job with Episode 3. This is the film to tie the 2 trilogies together and although we know more or less everything thats going to happen, it'll still be fun to compare the final film with our own predictions. Fingers crossed eh? As for the brand new Original Star Wars DVD Trilogy Boxset. It feels like a bit of a cash-in when you consider the inevitable 6 film box-set that Lucas has planned for release in a couple of years time. perhaps with the options of watching the original versions of all 3 films as well? We'll just have to wait and see. My one true hope is that Lucas has finally managed to get some genuine emotion out of his prequel actors (from Liam Neeson to Hayden Christienson, they CAN act yet Lucas isn't an actors director) for Episode 3, wooden acting simply will not cut it for THIS chapter. My final thought: In a few years down the line, when all 6 films have long been available on a galactic 10 disc special SPECIAL edition DVD boxset, and the novelty of the prequels has long worn off, will people look back and think "why the f**k did Lucas make the prequels in the first place? They ruin the originals." I just don't know. |
