I was kind of hoping that in episode III Lucas would throw all caution out the window and put a crazy twist in it: like..... padme was actually carrying triplets!!!! And Mace Windu hid the 3rd one!!! That would have been so awesome...

There are times when I feel guilty...the question is, do I feel guilty enough to change?

It is arguable in that some think the twist is that Palpatine is Anakins father. Shmi (Anakins mother) said she became pregant and there was no father and Palpatine said Darth Plagueis taught his apprentice (Palpatine) everything he knows, and so many believe Palpatine used the Force to create a spawn and the power caused Shmi to be impregnated.

i think that's what lucas intended to do with the hint about sidious mentioning darth plagues's ability to create life, that may have been the answer to who anakin's father was via. the force

I've always really like that idea. It also adds the nice twist that it's the spawn of the Dark side that is it's eventual destroyer. It adds yet another layer to Anakin/Vader's character.

thats an interesting thought, but i remember in episode one qouigonjin(sp) said that it was possible that annican was conceived by the metaclorines; so there was no father.
darth sidious didnot have the same powers that darth palagous; darth citius could not create life therefore it is impossible for him to be annican's father, nor does it make sence for him to do something like that.

Yes, he was created out of the midiclorians (sp). But Palpatime, using that power he gained from his mentor, may have been the catalyst that allowed him to be borne of them.

Like, for example, a women goes to the doctor and is artificially inseminated. He was not impregnated by a man but rather a test tube. Still, someone out there is the child's father.
