Picking up where "Blade" left off, "Blade II" offers raucous
action and ghoulish imagery designed to make you squirm. The movie,
helmed by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, has received mixed
reviews, but one thing is certain: the muzzle on the mutant vampires
(called 'reapers') will freak you out. Enter Tippett
Studios.
Blair Clark and Craig Hayes supervised the near-100 visual
effects shots awarded to Tippett Studios by VFX producer Susan
McCloud and supervisor Nick Brook. The two worked closely with Brook
and del Toro to develop virtual liberated-camera (L-Cam) shots and
the 'maw' shots -- these include the aforementioned CG extension that
the reapers display before devouring their prey. Clark and Hayes took
the time to talk with VFXPro about the production in Prague and the
fully CG shots they created for Blade's final showdown...
