"Both of these designs were part of a pitch for Warner Bros.’ ‘Batman: Year One’ movie and toy line," said artist Christian Zanier [of Draxhall Jump studios]. "Basically, what we were going for is the first Batmobile that Bruce Wayne built, unrefined and kinda crude. It’s part jet engine and part muscle car."
The "kinda crude" design is by design, said artist Ken Lashley. "In the first ‘Batman’ movie, you can’t tell for sure what year it is," he remarked. "You’re just guessing. It’s close to our time, but not really. It could be the past, it could be the near future. Then for ‘Year One,’ you’re designing backwards. You’ve seen the world, now you have to say to yourself, ‘What would this world look like 20 years prior?’ That’s tough. It’s easier to design forward. It’s tough to design backwards."
