December 5, 2001 — 'Liz-Biz-News' has posted an amazing article by the Canadian Press with Tom Cruise describing 'Vanilla Sky'. Here's a clip from that article:
As for Vanilla Sky, Cameron Crowe's enigmatic and surreal film that opens next week, the actor insisted he's very different from the character he played, a wealthy New York City publishing heir. David Aames, by all accounts a pampered prince of the city, is just "snow-boarding through life," says Cruise, not recognizing his responsibilities or the impact of the casual sex he has with women. "This film is embracing a guy searching for humanity and recognizing the little moments in our lives and the ripple effect that occurs in all of us."

Tom Cruise also did "Live at MUCH." Here's a clip from the transcript:
TOM CRUISE IN "VANILLA SKY" HERE IN THE MuchMusic ENVIRONMENT.
HAVING A LITTLE SIT-DOWN WITH HIM. (Applause)
YOU'D SEEN THE FOREIGN FILM A
FEW YEARS AGO AND YOU JUST HAD TO HAVE IT. BUT WHAT WAS IT THAT ATTRACTED
YOU TO IT? WAS IT AN IDEA OF THE CHARACTER,WHAT WAS INVOLVED IN THE SCRIPT? WHAT WAS IT THAT DREW YOU?
Tom: I LOVED THE MOVIE.
I WAS STARTLED BY THE FILMMAKING, AND I ALSO, I'VE BEEN OFFERED A LOT OF THINGS TO KIND OF REMAKE, AND I LIKE CAMERON'SYOU KNOW, WHAT HE SAYS.
IT'S A COVER OF A MENABAR'S PICTURE.
HE GOT HIS BAND TOGETHER AND WE'RE PLAYING HIS SONG.
BUT IT JUST IT SEEMED OPEN-ENDED
TO US AND ALLOWED A FILMMAKER TO COME ON IN AND PUT HIS OWN VISION INTO IT, BECAUSE WITH THAT STRUCTURE, YOU CAN REALLY TELL A MODERN LOVE STORY AND KIND OF ASK SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT CAMERON WAS INTERESTED IN, THE EFFECTS OF POP CULTURE, YOU KNOW (Chuckling)
THANK YOU.
