May 16, 2001 — The BBC had a little to say about a few films at the London Film Festival. Within their article was a story about the man who cried. Here is what they had to
say:
We spoke with director Sally Potter about her new film "The Man
Who Cried", a romantic fable starring Christina Ricci, Harry Dean
Stanton, and Johnny Depp. Potter integrates opera, Yiddish songs, and
gypsy folk music to tell the story of a Jewish girl who becomes a
singer with a popular opera company in order to raise the fare to
America to find her father.
Potter explained "I wanted to do something for music with this
film that I tried to do with dance in "The Tango Lesson", which was
to really make it part of telling the story".
