February 15, 2002 — Although both Ewan MacGregor and Baz Luhrman were omitted from this years Academy Award nominations, Moulin Rouge still managed to capture 8 nominations. Included were the obvious (Art Direction, Costumes, and Sound) and the extraordinary (Best Picture and Best Actress Nicole Kidman). Other nominations include Editing, Cinematography, and Makeup. Fellow cast member Jim Broadbent was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but for the film Iris with Judy Dench.
