September 17, 2001 — "UPN is in discussions with MGM about the studio's comedy series project based on the hit movie "Legally Blonde." The Hollywood Reporter says that UPN has made an offer and emerged as a front-runner for the series, which is being shopped around. Marc E. Platt, a producer on the film, has been attached to the TV project, which is in the early stages of casting the lead, played in the movie by Reese Witherspoon.

UPN, the new home of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," also picked up the "Clueless" sitcom in 1997 when ABC dropped it after one season. An MGM spokeswoman confirmed the talks with UPN but emphasized that the studio also is talking with other outlets about the project."
