I just got back from a midnight showing (is there any other way to watch a movie by the illustrious Rob Zombie? I think not.) here in New Orleans. What can I say about this movie other than the fact that it is pure Zombie? An easy way to determine if you will lik ethe movie is to put on a copy of The Sinister Urge and let it play all the way through. If you like the CD, you will like the movie. If you don't... I hear Piglet's Big Adventure is good. The House echoes with allusions to the horror giants who went before. In fact, if you can't hear a chainsaw in the back of your head, you just aren't paying attention. I hope Todd McFarlain is paying attention, because I see a toy line. The characterization is perfect, the setting is straight from the nightmares of the damned (trust me on this), and yes, the Doctor is in.
For those of you who cannot appreciate the pure genius of the young cop's death scene... let me clue you in. The moment someone places a loaded gun to another human's third eye, time ceases to be for them. The world holds it's breath... nothing moves until the trigger is pulled. This exquisite moment when life stands on the edge and looks into Death is much to often rushed... Zombie understands that time ceases to matter... a few seconds is just not enough to absorb the enormity of the scene. Just ask Raymond K. Hessel over breakfast...
I give it four dead stars...
