March 5, 2001 — Controversial comic Chris Rock is heading to heaven in his next film, 'I Was Made to Love Her.' Chris talked about his movie with Entertainment Tonight. ET: So we're here in heaven. Can you set it up for us? Chris Rock: We're here in heaven, and I don't realize I'm dead yet. I'm just wandering around heaven, and everybody's here. We have Indians, pilgrims and cavemen. There are all sorts of people in heaven. ET: What is this movie about? Chris: This movie is loosely based on 'Heaven Can Wait.' It's about a guy who's a really bad comedian. He's horrible. He's so bad that everybody calls him "Booey," because he gets booed off the stage every night. He's on the way to a club and he gets killed in a freak accident. He gets killed, but he's not really supposed to be dead yet. Chris: So he goes up to heaven and they find out that they've made a mistake. They take him back to get his body, but they find he's an organ donor. So, now they have to find "Booey" a new body. The body ends up being an old white guy's body, because that's all they have. While I'm this old white man, I fall in love with a girl. It's a young black girl played by Regina King, and I have to try to convince her to love me despite my looks. ET: Is it kind of a romantic movie? Chris: You know how they call them romantic comedies? We're making a comedy romantic. There will be some romantic elements in this. ET: Tell me what it's like working with Chazz Palminteri and Eugene Levy. Chris: Chazz is really good. I love 'A Bronx Tale.' It's one of my favorite movies. I thought it would be funny if heaven was run by a mobster, an ex-mob guy. He's a great ex-mob guy. He's just a really good actor. |
