I was on Aaron's board and I couldn't believe all the negative reviews that SLY has been getting. By now I think we all know the main plot of SLY and inevitably how it ends...but why is that such a bad thing? What I mean is, this movie is a romantic comedy. Translation: everything works out in the end. Critics seem to be almost surprised by this fact. They have good things (for the most part) to say about Judd and Jackman as far as chemistry goes but they all seem to agree that the ending (whatever it may be) feels rushed, just to satisfy the "romantic comedy" quota. Having read the book (and loving it) I can honestly say that because of that last scene with Jane and Eddie, where she finds out that he knows her secret and they come to blows over it and eventually share a nice moment, if Laura Zigman had chosen to write the ending differently (that Eddie and Jane DID get together), the fact that Eddie and Jane didn't have that many scenes together wouldn't bother me. Critics seem to be hung up on the fact that because more time is spent on Ray and Jane as opposed to Eddie and Jane, that the ending seems rushed and fake. I don't know, in my opinion, romantic comedies are not suppose to be the stuff that oscars are made of. They're meant to be indulgent. They're the kind of movies you want to go see when you're feeling down because you know that no matter what, the ending will be a happy one. Yes, you may know that the main characters end up together going into the movie but it's the process that they take to get there that has you really interested. The way they go about it and the way they interact with each other and others that has you paying $8.50.

I just saw "Someone Like You" for the first time tonight, and it was exactly what I suspected it to be. Having read the book also, my views on the matter are different. As harsh as the critics are, I agree with some of what they are getting at. Yes, the chemistry was great, but there were things that were left out. It seemed kind of choppy.

After finishing the book not too long ago (about a 4 days to be precise ^_^) I was kind of nervous about what the movie would be like, piecing together what I saw from all of the millions of trailors I downloaded. It was exactly what I I had percieved it to be.

Maybe it seemed rushed at the end because they wanted it to have a happy ending- guy meets girl, guy dumps girl, girl gets revenge >=) girl finds new cow..i mean guy =) and falls in love. Simple romance story, been there, done that. But fans like happy endings, and maybe that's why they just threw Eddie and Jane together.

Just my two cents ^_^
