Will we ever see a "Mummy Returns 3"? Director Stephen Sommers talks!

SUBMITTED BY Toad

November 14, 2001

Variety reports news that "The Mummy" & "The Mummy Returns" writer/director Stephen Sommers has signed a three-year non-exclusive deal with Universal Pictures.

Sommers and friend Bob Ducsay, his former USC film school classmate who's been a long time editor of the Duirectors film are in the process of bringing another "reimagination" of a classic tail back to the big screen. but Sommers won't disclose its name.

Sommers speaks of the project. "It's an interesting but complicated project that's not exactly out of the library, but I'd rather see if I can write it first."

But, what about "The Mummy 3"? Surely there's a high demand for another as the film broke Box-Office records as well as DVD Video & Rental. But most of the gang alread stated that they wouldnt come back for anything (Rachel Weisz) but would they possibly for a much bigger and better story?

It has been a fun ride, but my immediate priority is to do something non-'Mummy' related for a change." Says Sommers

Well that about nips it in the bud. But at least we know that it's still a possibilty! More news on "The Mummy 3" as it arises!
