July 13, 2001 — Video Business wrote a
piece on how Universal
might have made too many promises this past year. Within the article
are some rough estimates on when movies are due out on video and DVD.
Think of and thank Squrik when you get one of these DVDs or
videos.
Poor Universal Studios.
If they hadn't agreed to continue distributing DreamWorks
product, they wouldn't be stuck in this sorrowful fix.
Universal promised retailers during a massive presentation in
May in Orlando, Fla., that they would deliver four sell-through
titles in the fourth quarter. Turns out they have painted themselves
into a corner.
Between the two studios, it looks as if Universal could be
stuck with seven sell-through-caliber titles in the fourth quarter.
That's too many for any one studio...
