SUBMITTED BY Nicole May 6, 2001 — The sequel opened to a whopping $70.1 million, which is estimated to be the biggest ever non-holiday weekend of all time. It beat out "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" ($64.8 million) for that honor. It is also the second biggest opener ever, beaten only by another sequel, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park". That dinosaur film brought in $72.1 million when it opened in time for Memorial Day in 1997. |
