June 22, 2001 — Empire Online sat down to talk to several cast members of 'Evolution'. Here is only a tidbit of what they found out:
EO: Ivan, having been responsible for what is probably the first comedy blockbuster with Ghostbusters, what prompted you to take on evolution?
Ivan Reitman: "I received the script for Evolution a few years ago. It started as a very dramatic action science fiction movie and it had this original premise in it and not much else. But the way I developed the project was in a humorous way, because that's my vocabulary. I've always been a fan of science fiction films. As a kid I used to watch them and I'd never really been able to put my particular spin on that genre. Also the opportunity to do CGI, which is something I had really not done. This movie couldn't have been made 15 years ago when we made Ghostbusters, in fact it couldn't have been made 5 years ago because of the computing power necessary to create this sort of ecosystem full of extraordinary creatures that we have."
EO: Seann and Orlando, what prompted you to climb aboard?
Seann William Thomas: "Well I…"
David: "Thank you, that's enough…
Orlando: "As you all know I spent seven or eight long years on the casting couch…"
David: "With Ivan?"
Orlando: "Yeah, turning in sexual favours. I saw the script for this movie under two dimes and a nickel and a pixie-stick as I recall. I called Ivan and asked for the role, he promptly said 'who are you?' and hung up. I then had my agent send a tape of a television show I used to do, Mad TV, and that's how I ended up here."
