June 4, 2001 — What movies did 'Evolution' look back on for inspiration? Certainly any film that involves heroically administering a lethal enema of Head & Shoulders shampoo into an alien would place it firmly in the sci-fi comedy genre. Such was the case Friday when DreamWorks premiered ``Evolution'' at the National Theatre. ``'Something About Mary' meets 'ET,''' was the way star Orlando Jones categorized the film. ``A mix of 'Dumb & Dumber' with 'Ghostbusters,''' was special effects wiz Phil Tippett's take. Whatever the blend, producer-director Ivan Reitman said the challenge of mixing computer graphics and comedy is that ``they normally fight each other.'' ``You have to walk a very narrow line to get an audience emotionally involved in something that will either make them laugh or make them jump out of their seats,'' the helmer said. Among those in the seats were stars David Duchovny, Julianne Moore and Seann William Scott; plus guests including Garry Shandling and Dana Delaney. Check out the link below for more.
