June 18, 2002 — Box Office Mojo updates us on how well Spider-Man is doing as well as other movies:
'Spider-Man' netted another $7,515,984 -- down just 27% -- for a 45-day
total of $382,537,669. It now ranks No. 39 on the adjusted all time chart,
just a smidgen behind 1963's 'Cleopatra.' It's still at No. 5 on the
unadjusted all time chart, as it has quite a ways to go if it can surpass
No. 4 'The Phantom Menace' ($431,088,297).
'Attack of the Clones' held up quite well in its sixth weekend despite
dropping from 3,161 theaters to 2,401. Coming in at No. 6, business was down
33% to $9,438,607, beating Fox's estimate by $200,000. After 32 days, its
total has climbed to $270,752,477. That puts it at No. 16 on the all time
chart, surpassing 'Shrek's $267,665,011 and at No. 86 on the
inflation-adjusted all time chart, also ahead of 'Shrek' but a smidgen
behind 'Top Gun.'
Meanwhile, 'Scooby-Doo' did not break the 'Austin Powers' sequel's June
opening record. It came in at $54,155,312, or $2,260,000 less than Warner
Bros.' estimate. Universal and MGM were close with their esimates for 'The
Bourne Identity' ($27,120,000 actual) and 'Windtalkers' ($14,520,000 actual)
respectively.
