November 4, 2002 — The NY Post reports that Spider-Man has raked in an astounding $190 million in its first three days out on DVD and videotape.
Sony Pictures said 7 million copies were gobbled up by fans on the first day alone - shattering new records for home-entertainment sales.
" 'Spider-Man' is on track to become the biggest selling DVD title in history," gushed Sony Chairman John Calley. "The success of Spider-Man' is staggering.
"It took a true superhero to accomplish this phenomenal feat."
Benjamin Feingold, president of Sony's Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, added that with 26 million copies shipped to stores, "We're already 40 percent sold off, and we have seven weeks 'til Christmas."
