November 19, 2001 — The Toronto Sun seems to think so, as they smack down a ravishing report on what sounds like an impressive DVD:
Aside from a double slam of The Phantom Menace on VHS and then on DVD, no review I've written recently has inspired such fuss as my take on Planet Of The Apes.
I raved about Burton's visionary genius. As a result, I was called a raving lunatic by some and my vision was questioned by others. But I was also praised by fans of the film for the courage to defend Burton. It's a case of extremes.
Let the mudslinging games begin anew: The 2001 version of Planet Of The Apes is coming to VHS and DVD tomorrow from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The DVD version is a two-disc Special Edition with an impressive and exhaustive lineup of well-organized, well-executed extras.
Fox Home Entertainment has also dug into the vaults and dusted off the 1974 TV version of Planet Of The Apes.
