Bill Clinton: The Next Hollywood Star?

SUBMITTED BY Scooby

October 14, 2001 — Seriously, folks. It appears Hollywood is trying to woo the former U.S. president onto the silver screen. From USA Today:

If Ronald Reagan can go from actor to president, what's to stop Bill Clinton from doing the reverse?

While here last week for a fundraiser, Clinton told reporters, "I've been offered a lot of movie parts. So far I haven't accepted one."

The former president has lots of friends in Hollywood, of course. We asked some actors if they think Clinton has marquee appeal and what kind of role he might play.

Wesley Snipes says he can see Clinton, whom author Toni Morrison once called the first black president, portraying Martin Luther King Jr. "You never know the way non-specific casting is going," Snipes says. "I'd go see it."

Gary Busey cryptically told us that he "offered (Clinton) a movie."

He said he told the former president, "After what you have been through and the incredible amount of force of nature you have, if you come to Hollywood and we do a movie together, you'll win an Oscar."

Bruce Willis, a Republican and Bush supporter, didn't embrace the idea of competing with the Democrat for roles. "It's hard enough being an actor when you know how to do it."

Michael Clarke Duncan says he would love to work with Clinton. "I think he would do well in a comedy, something like maybe if he and I were long-lost brothers. We had separate mothers, same fathers; I'm the leader of this militant group, and he's the leader of this white supremacist group. And they find out we're actually brothers. I think something like that would go over well."

What do you think? Should Bill Clinton branch out into Hollywood?
