"Despite lacklustre reviews in both the UK and across the pond, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes has shot straight to the top of the UK box-office charts, taking #5.43 million over the weekend. Thousands of Brits flocked to their nearest screen to finally take a look at Burton’s redux of the 60’s classic.
Not only has it had the largest UK opening this summer, beating off competition from the likes of Pearl Harbour and Jurassic Park III, but the 3rd biggest opening in the UK for Twentieth Century Fox after The Phantom Menace and Independence Day. In addition, it has displaced the abominable Batman and Robin to take 10th spot in the top 10 UK openings of all time. |
