Last month, CHUD reported that 20th Century Fox had a script in the works titled Genesis: Apes, which is essentially a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The site said that the project is the story of Caesar, the first ape with speech who started the events that led to a world where monkeys were on top.

Now, they're reporting that Fox's Tom Rothman talks about the possible prequel in between showings of the "Planet of the Apes" movies on Fox Movie Channel this weekend.

"We are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009," Rotham reportedly says.

Sometimes I wish a clause could be put on films. I'll try to explain the clause I mean.

Hockey players are allowed to have "no-move" or no-trade clauses and it takes a long trialing process to get rid of it or to break it.

Well, when I see or foresee what could be seen as terrible sequels and prequels to excellent films, I wish a clause could be put on excellent films which would make producing sequels or prequels to them a long process to have them approved, let alone made. Let's face it, some "creative" directors jump into the hole too fast and the result is being stuck in a very dung-filled, deeply dug hole and the only thing that escapes is terrible films (*cough* Ace Ventura 3 *cough* Son of the Mask *cough* etc *cough*

Does this limit freedom of speech or creativity, you could say so but really it could be for the better, mentally and financially.

...or you could just not watch it. Same outcome.

That's another option, no doubt.

I'm just saying, (and I'm not pre-claiming this film will be terrible), why not put creativity and money towards making new, innovative films and leave the classics alone?

Don't be so silly, this is FOX we're talking about

The original Planet of the Apes is a classic i'll give you that, the 10 odd sequels definately aren't. And this is a prequel to the remake, so i'm all for more PotA with modern effects.

Because, at the end of the day, studios want the most return on their investments. It is les risky putting money into a remake or sequel or prequel to a film the public already likes. Sure, it takes no creativity, but that isn't what studios are about. Leave the creativity to the folks at Sundance because the studios want money.
