December 6, 2001 — In Ocean's Eleven, you'll be rooting for the bad guys. Matt Damon and George Clooney explain why:
What's with Hollywood's penchant for portraying such dirty dealings in the movies? "There's probably a universal fascination with the heist and the con, and how it's done," says Damon. "It's always revealed how it was pulled off, so that keeps the audience interested for the whole time." And as his co-star George Clooney points out, a Las Vegas casino heist flick has a "Robin Hood sort of" atmosphere that makes it easy for moviegoers to root for the crooks.
Chuckling, Damon recalls: "I think the original line from the poster was, 'In any other town, they'd be the bad guy.'"
