December 2, 2001 — The cast of 'Ocean's Eleven' give their thoughts on the original, starring the Rat Pack:
WHAT DO THEY THINK OF THE 1960 ORIGINAL WITH FRANK, DEAN, SAMMY ET AL?
Director Steven Soderbergh: "I loved the title. (Laughs) I think that's a movie that's probably remembered more for who was in it, and the fact that is was the first Rat Pack film -- although Robin And The Seven Hoods is the best."
Julia Roberts: "I have said you should only remake bad movies."
Soderbergh: "So we're remaking (his earlier film) Kafka."
Roberts (laughs): "I said it, and that comes more out of people saying to me, 'Would you like to remake The Philadelphia Story or His Girl Friday?' I think those are brilliant movies. And if there's not room for improvement, what are you doing but setting yourself up to fail?"
Don Cheadle: "I don't think they (The Rat Pack) took it seriously. They'd carouse all night, get an hour's sleep, show up at the set and do one take and leave. And it kinda shows."
George Clooney: "I just never thought it was a classic. We'll never be as cool as them, but we made a better film."
