Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
Anticipation was high!
Movie Review:
My thoughts on this movie...
The most amazing thing about this film is that Sam Neill and William H Macy actually signed for it! From the opening scenes where the boat gets attacked by thin air to the ending which just suddenly happens without anything building up to it, this film displays the dumb 1st grade imature attitude that Jumanji had. Whats that? Same director? Go figure. The CGI dinos this time around seem to have lost much of their sparkle and menace, replaced with a sort of kid-friendly attitude (the main dino kills one person and its off-camera). Plus, the Spinosaurus looks like a plastic crocodile that you would play with in the bath, the raptors have feathers in their heads and are supposedly smarter than before (yet they seem to have a hell of a hard time killing a bunch of helpless, shouting annoying humans wandering about aimlessly in the forest. Yeah, they're geniuses). And we now have flying dinos, but they're about as scary as your neighbours budgie. Perhaps most wretchidly of all, the wonderful T-Rex which has proved so powerful in the prequels LETS itself be killed by the plastic crocodile. Oh and the toddler kid survives on the island alone for 8 weeks yet the trained lethal professional hitman type guy dies within 2 minutes of landing. That and the fact that a sattelite phone works after being through a plastic crocodiles digestive system (and not have a mark on it either), are just two of the little things about this film that grate. Any sequel where the director "generously" hands over the reigns to somebody else is essentially jumping ship. This is feature length proof of that. Because this ship has sunk and Spielberg is dry as a bone. I'll end on a joke. What do you call a dinosaur who can smash through a King Kong style 50 feet high metal gate/cage, and yet cant break through a little door? Watch this film and find out.
DVD Review:
Thoughts on the DVD release of this movie...
The extras are actually quite decent, but the makers spend so much time self-congratulating themselves that they only deserve half a star. Lots of "that shot looks great..." moments in the commentary, even though it looks crap.
