August 2, 2001 — Well there is some good news after this weekend. It seems that two
more movies have hit the $100 million marker. Thanks Squrik for the
financial news.
...Meanwhile, last week's champ, Jurassic Park III, dropped to
No. 2 with $ 22.5 million, followed by America's Sweethearts with $
15.7 million. Rounding out the weekend's top five were Legally Blonde
with $ 9 million, followed by The Score with $ 7.1 million.
Monkey business proved to be good overall movie business.
Overall ticket sales were up 8% from last weekend, and 20% from the
same weekend last year. Jurassic Park III and Dr. Dolittle 2 (No. 7
with $ 4.2 million) became the eighth and ninth films this year to
cross the $ 100 million mark.
