By Kit-Kat

For the most part when the chick flick movies hit the screen I exit stage left. Sappy romance and happily ever after movies just don't compare to a good Sci-Fi alien exploding out of your chest for me. However, on rare occasion that inner chick comes out and I will actually brave a viewing. Two of those I've braved over the years are Pretty Woman and Under the Tuscan Sun and I enjoyed them both. Considering Richard Gere and Diane Lane teamed up for Nights in Rodanthe I figured what the hell, girly Kel could stand to come out for a viewing on DVD. Besides, you add in water and a sandy beach and I am drawn like a moth to a flame.

DVD Synopsis

The stars of Unfaithful rekindle their on screen chemistry in this rich tale of hearts' awakenings based on a bestseller by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Message in a Bottle). Richard Gere is Paul, a surgeon who long ago unwittingly traded family for career. Diane Lane is Adrienne, a devoted mother trying to move on after her husband's infidelity and struggling with his desire to return to their marriage. At a remote inn on the Outer Banks, Paul and Adrienne expect to do some serious soul searching. But an approaching storm forces each to turn to the other for strength, setting the stage for a life resonating romance.

Anyone that knows me knows that I am in love with water - streams, lakes, oceans you name it - and a sandy beach is better than heaven to me. The breathtaking scenery in this film with the dust strewn roads and the Inn right towering alone on the most impressive sandy beach with waves crashing up to the steps was just fantastic. Now if only I could win the lottery and have a home such as that! But I digress, back to the movie itself. Richard Gere definitely has that certain chemistry and while he never was a heart throb for me personally, he definitely has that certain something to turn a snotty doctor into such a likeable and engaging character. Diane Lane shines as always, honestly I haven't found a movie that she didn't put her all into and she is just great. The Inn itself and the location is a presence that makes it become a character in itself. I could've done without the cheesy town evening but what can ya say, it is a chick flick after all.

One side of the disk is full screen and the other side has a wide screen option other than that there were no features at all - a bit disappointing for me as I hear there were features on the Blu-ray version. A pity those of us with out lonely DVD players are given the short end of the stick.

Even though there were no extras on the regular DVD release the move itself is worth it. And if you can get the Blu-ray by all means do so, at least then there will be some extra features to enjoy!
