I'm not big on cop movies, but sometimes they catch my interest. Since Pride and Glory had such a phenomenal cast with Colin Farrell, Edward Norton and Jon Voight (to name a few) I figured it would be a good mindless entertainment to catch it on DVD.

It definitely wasn't quite what I expected. It was more like and old school cop drama that gives away the plot within the first moments and leaves you tagging along endlessly until the rest of the cast figured it out. There are only so many ways to spin a cop gone bad in a family of cops plot.

DVD Synopsis

Four cops down: two dead, two likely. An NYPD drug bust has gone horribly wrong, and Detective Ray Tierney heads the investigating task force. He already has ties to the case. His brother was commander of the ambushed officers. His brother in law, a fellow officer, often partnered with them. The more Ray uncovers, the more those family ties are tested. And the more the fraternal order starts to fray. Edward Norton, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight and Noel Emmerich star in a gritty, tension packed tale of a multigenerational family of cops facing hard realities and tough choices. Set and filmed in Manhattan's Washington Heights, Pride and Glory draws you into a grippingly raw real world... and into a house divided.

Seriously, kudos to the synopsis writers for a lot of these movies as they make it sound so good! This wasn't a bad movie by any means, just rather predictable and droll. While Norton really excelled in his role as Ray Tierney even he cannot carry an entire movie and most of the other actors just didn't live up to their potential. Oh Jon Voight had a few good moments; however the big disappointment was Farrell, it didn't seem like he got into his character at all.

I was looking for the bonus features to at least add a little flavor to the film and bring it some life but alas, only a single feature was to be found. Oddly enough it was more entertaining to me than the movie but still - just a comprehensive documentary to sink your teeth into.

This movie had potential but didn't quite reach it and since the features seem to be getting less and less these days on DVDs its not something I can even say is worthy of adding to a collection. If you're looking for movie to pass the time and curious about the long gestation for its release then by all means - grab it and enjoy. But if you're looking for a riveting and intense cop drama, you may be disappointed.
