By Kit-Kat

James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie are two of my favorites though I will admit putting them together in a movie seemed odd to me. Of course I never got to the theatre so when this hit DVD I was all over it. I was just dying of curiosity to see what this movie was about. After watching the Two Disc Special Edition I can say I was flat out shocked at it; it was definitely not what I expected it to be.

It was a bit over the top (albeit extremely cool effects I thought) with the action sequences and rather a stretch to me with the premise but on the whole I liked the movie. Any movie that can shock me these days and be so not what I expected deserves kudos.

Wesley's (James McAvoy) life is over - his pathetic, old one, anyway... Fortunately, it is all because of a girl. Enter sizzling hot Fox (Angelina Jolie), who crashes into his life and introduces him to the Fraternity, a secret society of assassins, led by the enigmatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Seems Wes's long lost father was killed while working for the Fraternity and Wes has been selected to target the roui member who murdered him. But before he can complete his assignment, Wes must first uncover the dark secrets behind the Fraternity in order to determine his own destiny.

Forgive me but I just cannot see James McAvoy as this killer assassin. He did a wonderful job with his character and being the mousy Wesley who comes into his own was rather interesting; but it just was a bit of a stretch for me with him as this character. He does pull it off wonderfully though I wouldn't peg him for a first casting choice.

Angelina Jolie to me was in her element, she always does such a great job as the tough chick and she nailed her part as Fox right to the very (if shocking) end. Morgan Freeman, Terrance Stamp and the rest of the cast did an exceptional job as well. All of the characters were brought to life in a believable way even if the story line was a bit over the top. The effects, chases and special bullets were all really cool and visually amazing, I was completely impressed (but again, so far fetched to cause a shake of the head). Not what you would expect and yet pretty damn good all the same.

Bonus Features

Disc two contains the meat of the features. The Extended Scene wasn't much and could've done without. Cast and Characters delves into the cast discussing their characters which was pretty interesting. Stunts on the L Train explain how the bridge scene was done, it's quite short but it was rather cool to watch. Special Effects: The Art of the Impossible gives insight into how the effects were done (with some great sequences) but I thought it should've gone into more detail.

Groundbreaking Visual Effects: From Imagination to Execution gives more information on the digital effects and just how they were done (one of the better featurettes I thought). The Origins of Wanted: Bringing the Graphic Novel to Life is a featurette with the novelist Mark Millar and his take on how the novel was brought to life. This featurette definitely explained some things for me (didn't realize it was in print first). Through the Eyes of Visionary Director Timur Bekmambetov goes into the directors' aspect of things and his amazing way of bringing the film to life. You get cast and crew bits on this featurette all heaping praise on the director. He's relatively new to me so I cannot say whether he'll make my list just yet. Wanted: Motion Comics shows you scenes from the original novel with animated frames - pretty interesting actually. The Little Things Music Video Mash Up is just as it says a music video to the visual of film clips. The Making of Wanted: The Game delves into the coming video game adaptation for the film (you knew this was coming).

Over all while I found the movie to be a bit unbelievable it was still really cool to watch and the bonus features are a good complement to the movie. Definitely worthy of adding to your collection, its going next to my Tomb Raider collection on my shelf.
