It's pretty clear to me that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have secured their niche as a cultural phenomenon. I have yet to meet a daring lass that doesn't stare off dreamily at the mere mention of Captain Jack Sparrow or sigh wistfully at thoughts of Will Turner (Jr. or course, after all a starfish on the face is a bit much to be dreamy over right?). Why even guys have nothing but fond things to say about Ms. Elizabeth Swan. With such a stellar cast and terrific writers how can you go wrong? Obviously, you can't.

The special two disc edition DVD has hit the shelves and it barely has time to settle before someone is launching themselves up to grab it for their very own. And well you should! There have been some great DVD releases this year and the 2 disc edition of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is certainly one of them. Hotties aside, the features are everything you could want and more!

Here's a synopsis of the movie for those of you that aren't quite "in the know" as the general populace: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley reunite in Walt Disney Pictures', in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Films, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST, an all new epic tale chronicling the further mis-adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski from a screenplay written by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio, Captain Jack sets sail on an all new adventure - filled with more intrigue, more spectacular special effects and more comedy Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski from a screenplay written by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio, Captain Jack sets sail on an all new adventure - filled with more intrigue, more spectacular special effects and more comedy...

Now I know you don't seriously expect me to review the billion dollar hit movie in here; after all, what can I possibly say that hasn't been said? So! I'll move along to your DVD Disc features! Disc One has (aside from the smashing, wonderful, fabulous movie of course) Bloopers of the Caribbean- who doesn't love a blooper reel and this one is on par with what you would expect to go on during shooting - what fun! You also get your standard Audio Commentary section this time with writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio. I have to admit it's not too bad actually, and I'm not a fan of the commentaries in general (well unless it's Peter Jackson but that is another obsession).

Moving on to Disc Two you are treated with some great features. First off you have Charting the Return which chronicles the shooting of the film going through principal photography, cast training, and serious script rewrites. I myself always love these features since I find the whole creation process fascinating for all movies so this was my favorite. Captain Jack From Head to Toe I bet will be one of the most watched features on this disc as it actually does give you a total head to toe interactive look into his costume and the choices made for creation. I can admit while I personally favored the production behind the scenes my friend was all over the Captain Jack feature. Mastering the Blade was terrific though I would've liked to have seen more, it was just too short for me! It goes into the training that some of the cast (note I say some though I wish I could've seen all) went through for their sword fights. Meet Davy Jones: Anatomy of a Legend was spectacular and there is not a animated geek around that won't love this feature that delves into the motion capture and extensive CGI to create this wonderous creature. On the same level is Creating the Kraken, and the look on Johnny Depps face during this feature is priceless! Dead Men Tell New Tales gives you the jist on the revamp for the popular Disney attraction that sparked this cultural phenomenon. As for me, I have yet to actually see this ride (I know... I KNOW!). Fly on the Set the Bone Cage gives a brief look at the behind the scenes filming for the complex scene. Jerry Bruckheimer: A Producer's Photo Gallery - is just that, and eih, I'm not one to flip through gallery images on a DVD unless it's the artwork so this is the one feature that didn't rate high on the NKK scoring card. And last but not least is the Pirates on Main Street. Yeah, I will say it loud and proud - watching that feature was a bitter pill as I sooo wanted the premiere to be in L.A.! Aside from that bitter pill of mine, the rehash of the red carpet premiere was ultra cool (and of course there is the hope that Pirates will rake up Oscar noms so I can really have fun during our potential Oscar coverage!).

Haven't you bought it yet? What on earth are you looking at this natter for when other smart people have been cleaning the shelves of this little gem from Disney? Go on and get one for yourself savvy?!
