The Film Wing's short 'Dirty Mary' was shown at the HollyShorts Film Festival and CountingDown's Susanne has a moment with writer/exe. producer/prd/actress Daniele Ferraro for a brief Q&A

By Susanne Robbins

Q - Tell us a little bit about the story?

This is a story about a girl named Mary trying to do right, by doing all the wrong things. She has found the love of her life and decides no matter what, she will not repeat the sins of her past; she refuses to go home with him and to insure this, she has carefully constructed a battle plan. Plan A, Exhibit A - Period Stained Grannie Panties, Plan B Exhibit B - 4 days of Italian leg stubble, and last but not least she leaves her apartment a complete mess so under no circumstances will she get the urge to invite him over. But the anticipation of the night gets the best of her nerves; a few too many martinis and a generous bartender end up sending Mary on a downward spiral of humiliation... and ultimately she ends up exactly where she should have begun.

Q - How long did it take you from conception of the idea to the final project? Also what was your rough budget on this film?

It took me about a year. My budget was about 12,000.00

Q - What obstacles did you encounter on the way?

My first lesson in producing was, producing means problem solving. When I decided to create this short film, everything was a little bit of an obstacle because I had never done a short film before. Every step was it's own problem I had to solve, but it was a challenge that I welcomed and enjoyed every bit of the way. Overall there really weren't any major disasters. The only thing that really weighed on my shoulders when I started was the budget. I had absolutely NO finances. I decided to kick start it into action by having a massive fundraiser, that in itself was a huge production, but it turned out to be a major success, in turn giving me a green light to a start.

Q - Were you involved in the Casting Process?

Yes, my director and I made the casting decisions.

Q - What is the next step? Are you still submitting to festivals? Also, do you have any projects coming up in the future?

Yes, we are still submitting to festivals. As of now we have been accepted to over 30 festivals have screened at about 20 and have won 10 awards. I have another short that I have written that I would like to produce and I have almost completed writing "Dirty Mary" the feature film. I am looking forward to getting the feature produced, and will also look forward to using someone else's money to produce it!
