George A. Romero - his name alone conjures up images that go bump in the night and bring new meaning to a flesh feast (literally). Anyone that loves horror and the nostalgia of the B movie, will consider this a must have for DVD. Growing up with the classics like Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead (to name a few), I have always looked with amusement and enjoyment at Romero's zombie evolution. His trademark satire, the gore, and the laughs always add delight to an otherwise played out theme. And as far as the 'Unrated Director's Cut' DVD is concerned - I did not get to see the theatrical version (I know, shame on me) so I have no comparison to the gore factor. Although, I can suspect from the visual gruesome display that much of this was toned down for the theatrical release. So enjoy zombie fans... your DVD is definitely juicier!
Packed with more heart pounding and blood curdling thrills than any theatre could show, this special Unrated Director's Cut unleashes the ultimate vision of Romero's living dead shock fest. Humanity's last remnants battling to survive the unspeakable truth: the ravenous zombie hordes besieging their fortified city are evolving.

I have to give credit to anyone that can 'act' as a zombie. Sure seems easy enough, but to make it realistic takes talent, and this cast has talent. Simon Baker (Riley), Asia Argento (Slack), John Leguizamo (Cholo) and Dennis Hopper (Evil Kaufman) all did exceptional jobs bringing their characters to life, and you cannot help but get a laugh at Hopper with his loony brilliance! Granted for a zombie film the characters don't get that fleshed out however; Baker, Hopper and Leguizamo give their characters an appreciated depth as the primary players in this undead masterpiece.
For extras you will be in DVD heaven. The audio for 5.1 is astounding, much better than most films I've heard and the sound is spread through all channels giving you a central seat to the action. 'Undead Again: The Making of the Land of the Dead' is a retrospective behind the scenes look at the movie (great behind the scenes footage). 'A Day with the Living Dead' shows you what the filming day is like for Leguizamo with some great zombie make up views. 'The Remaining Bits' has some deleted scenes. 'Feature Commentary' gives you history and structure to the zombie films (rather straightforward without much fun). 'When Shaun Met George' is a cool video short detailing the cameo in the film. Along with other goodies like Bringing the dead to life, scenes of carnage (killer music video), zombie effects, storyboards, and scream tests this DVD is a must own for all Romero fans!

Behind the Scenes Documentary is a 12 minute special makeup effects documentary! With his career coming full circle, Greg Nicotero was the special makeup effects designer on George A. Romero's Land of the Dead. In this exclusive look into his studio, we see how a zombie makeup is created step-by-step, how a "zombie bite" is rigged and executed, and how the different zombie heads and props from the film were designed and realized.
