I settled in my seat to view the new movie with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, the Wedding Crashers. As I wait for the movie to begin I am reminded of the one and only time I personally crashed a wedding. That's right, I crashed a wedding, the only problem no one told me you are supposed to come as a guest. Well color me embarrassed when I showed up in my Vera Wang knock off only to find there is another bride there, the very bride who is supposed to be getting married. Maybe no one will notice I think to myself. They may not have but her dad was a little suspicious when walking me down the isle. All was good until he gave me away to the groom, who quickly realized I was not the bride to be. Well it has been five years now and we are still together, little Annie just turned three (we named her after the original bride sort of as a little thank you for getting us together). So see eharmony isn't the only way to go to find that significant other.
Wedding Crashers is the story of two men who live for "Wedding Season" for three months out of the year they crash weddings, meet friends, and dance with beautiful women who then find their way into their beds. No commitment just their little way to prey on the single female population who are inevitably vulnerable and sad after yet another friend gets married reminding them of their single life. This is all going along swimmingly until one time when John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) wonders if there is something more out there. He thinks he is finally done with this life until the Mammoth of all weddings ends the season. His buddy Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) convinces him to crash the wedding of the daughter of the Treasury Secretary William Cleary (Christopher Walken), knowing this would be the social event of the year John agrees. Once there he finds he is quickly taken with one of Cleary's daughters Claire (Rachel McAdams), while Jeremy hooks up with Gloria (Isla Fisher) Cleary's other more complicated daughter. Gloria is taken with Jeremy and convinces her father to invite the two men to their summer home for the weekend. Jeremy doesn't want to go but John begs him to do this so he can find a way to get closer to Claire. Of course once there John is crushed to find that Claire is already taken by Sack (Bradley Cooper).
Do I even need to describe Sack to you? Doesn't the name say it all? John and Claire find themselves attracted to each other but of course in every romance movie it is complicated. Jeremy on the other hand is terrified of crazy Gloria's ways and is trying to do everything he can to break the ties. It is a romantic comedy with style, where most of these movies play toward the male character; this film allows our women to have heart, a brain, and a little sense of humor as well. The dysfunctional family is a wonderful extra element to the film. Sack played by Bradley Cooper, is the epitome of every Stereo typical College Fraternity boy, who has never known a world outside of privilege and Daddy's money. The highlight of this film is the relationship between Gloria and Jeremy. Gloria played by Isla Fisher honestly steals this movie she has some of the best lines, and gets to go toe to toe with Vince Vaughn, although she barely reaches his belly button she holds her own with him.
The opening sequence of the film is a little long for me I get the idea when they are visiting all the different weddings. The film definitely picks up once they make it to the Cleary's summer home. As I said before, unlike most romantic comedies this film really has a great story that is of course predictable at times but always entertaining.
And now... read on for the junket interview with Vince Vaughn!

Q: Do you analyze screen Chemistry between two guys or how it works?
VV: No I don't really analyze it I find that the best thing to do is to work really hard on the things you have control over. You can't really manipulate results you can only work really hard on the process and hope it works.
Q: Do you have to like the person you are acting with?
VV: Not necessarily that's why they call it acting. Of course in this case I happen to really like Owen. I was always a fan of his and I thought he is not only really funny but a great actor all of his comedy comes from a very real place. Of course David Dobkin who I worked with before on Clay Pigeons, we have a similar sense of humor. We also have the same sense of story telling as well same with Owen, so we were all working with each other to create this movie.
Q: Have you ever behaved badly at a wedding? Or scored at a wedding?
VV: I'm sure I have. I have never crashed one though I haven't been to a lot of weddings as an adult. Never scored at a wedding either.
Q: What about Parties have you ever crashed a party?
VV: Oh yeah I crashed parties when I was younger. There is something kind of fun about doing things when you are not supposed to when you are young. These guys are older and still doing this stuff and it begins to sink in that they don't have the same kind of innocence we used to have.
Q: What attracted you to this project and how was it working with Christopher Walken.
VV: The concept of the movie was funny, and then working with Owen and David. I love Chris he is a great actor I grew up watching his performances so it was wonderful.
Q: You are producing and acting, is that originally what you wanted to do
VV: You know when we did Swingers it was very collaborative and I just thought that was how all movies worked. Then certain films I was allowed to be collaborative and I enjoy having a say in the story. I love a good story so for me the producer thing is good because I like to control the destiny of the project a little more. Sometimes as a hired gun it is frustrating when you put your time and energy into doing something and it doesn't turn out.
Q: Did you have a good experience with this cast or a bad one?
VV: I hated them, no only kidding
Q: What was your favorite wedding to crash in the film?
VV: Oh God what was her name? We did sing karaoke at an Asian wedding we sang "99 red balloons" in German. Owen and I choreographed a whole number to the song. Unfortunately it doesn't make it into the movie because it is so long. They tried to add it as the end seen but it works better the way they ended it. It was funny though we were making up words that sounded German. It will be on the DVD but that was really fun to go shoot. Me and Owen come walking up to the stage and sing to hundreds of extras. Some of the funnier things didn't make it in the movie which is a lot of times the case when you have a story that works so well.
