Being naive I perceived this movie as a HORROR movie, but SAW is so much more. It is a smart, gritty thriller. If you love movies in the vain of "Seven" then you must own Saw.
The story begins with two people chained to opposite ends of an old abandoned bathroom with a dead body separating them. They begin telling their stories in flashbacks and find that they were chosen for a purpose. From there the roller coaster ride begins. Cary Elwes character gives you the background of the "Jigsaw killer" and the man he believes to have captured them. Trust me, just when you think you have the movie figured out it will blindside you with yet another twist.
The special features include two music Video's, one rated and unrated, they basically take the theme of the movie and make it into a music video. I will say the unrated version is rather creepy and worth the time to check it out, along with the making of. The trailers and TV spots are just your run of the mill stuff on a DVD. However the documentary of the making of the film was the one that sucked me in. By far the best bonus piece on the disc, unfortunately it was so short I was left wanting more. Maybe an interview or two with some of the actors, I mean Danny Glover, Casey Elwes, Monica Potter, anyone of the people in the cast would have been great to talk to. I was impressed to find out that these basically unknown guys put this film together with budget in mind first and then shot it in 18 days. However, I guess I will just have to cross my fingers for the SPECIAL EDITION to come out with more extra goodies for me to watch. Either way SAW will be a welcome addition to your DVD collection. I will sit patiently and eagerly await the sequel...
