BY PHILLIP NAKOV | A quick-to-the-point, man for hire is sent to the Amazon jungle to locate someone and bring him back to Los Angeles. The film stars The Rock, Seann William Scott, Rosario Dawson and Christopher Walken.

EXPECTATIONS

What I'd Seen

I'd seen the trailer quite a few times, and really saw some potential with this film. BUT, I've also seen the dozens of OTHER action star/comedic sidekick films recently released...

What I'd Heard

I hadn't heard anything, really. I heard that Seann William Scott had a blast making the movie and was really pumped for it to be released, but that's about it.

What I Wanted

I wanted a fun action movie with some great stunts and some great comedy to match. I wanted to see The Rock act in something set in present day and not call anyone a "Candy-ass." I wanted Seann William Scott to not be Stifler but still be as funny as Stifler. I wanted Christopher Walken to be, well, Christopher Walken.

EXPERIENCE

What Turned Me On

The comedy, hands down. This is a very funny movie that provides just as much laughter as it does butt-kicking action. There are some great stunts in this movie, and no matter who did them; The Rock, his stunt double, or the monkey...they are impressive. The film does jump on the "wire-work" bandwagon, but what's great is that most of these stunts are used to show The Rock getting, not giving, a whoppin' from a group of vertically challenged, but by no means physically challenged, rebels.

What Turned Me Off

The fact that Christopher Walken, and his band of sweaty cronies, live in the middle of a rainforest, yet still manage to have a second story hut that contains an abundance of TV's, security cameras, and a monitor switcher that would rival any TV newsroom.

Lines Worth Repeating

The Rock saying, "Slap it to me under the table, on the low low."

Never Saw That Before

Never saw two guys get beat down with a turntable. (Very Minor Spoiler Ahead) And I can safely say that I've never seen a monkey hump the face of The Rock before...although, strangely enough, SNL fans can claim they've seen a similar reversed version of said event.

Fidget Factor

Not much at all. However there is a slight chance that the strobe lights in the opening scene could induce a seizure.

AFTERMATH

I left thinking... With the notion that just a few weeks ago Dickie Roberts was #1 at the box office...this is going to make a ton of money.

I left saying... That was a really fun movie. Arnold better be glad that he is pursuing a new career, because in the not-so-distant future, he may be dethroned as the Action King.

Expiry Date: Not anytime soon. I think this film will enjoy a nice box office run, and it deserves to. Take some great stunts including a 400-foot head-over-heels fall down a heavily wooded mountainside, throw in an amazing "Amazon" (shot in Hawaii) backdrop, add a little Christopher Walken, and you have a movie that audiences need to see.

When it comes out on DVD, buy it. A nice, refreshing buddy film that certainly includes a fair share of cliche elements, but has enough comedy and originality to stand on it's own. The Rock guarantees that the outtakes alone will make this a must have.
