Jackie Chan (Jimmy Tong)

Known worldwide for his high-kicking antics, Jackie Chan has been Asia’s biggest box office star for more than 20 years and has since conquered the worldwide box office. His first American feature was the hit actioner “Rumble in the Bronx.” followed by the blockbuster teaming with Chris Tucker in “Rush Hour” and the hit sequel “Rush Hour 2.” He has also appeared in “Shanghai Noon,” “First Strike,” “Accidental Spy,” and the “Supercop” series, among others.

Born in Hong Kong to working class parents, Chan was apprenticed at age seven to the Peking Opera School where, over the next ten years, he was trained in all aspects of traditional operatic performance including acting, singing, and the martial arts. By the time Chan graduated, Chinese opera was declining in popularity and he gravitated into film, beginning his career as a stunt man and stunt coordinator. He was later spotted by a producer who gave him his first adult role in 1971’s “Little Tiger from Canton.”

Inspired by great comedic legends like Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, Chan has invented a unique style for film combining humor and death-defying stunts. A superb martial artist, Chan has built his legend by putting life on the line in his movies. In the montage of outtakes that typically end his films, fans see first hand that Jackie Chan is still his most amazing effect.
